Hello, my name is George & on 9/11 I lost my brother-in-law &
close friend Thomas Hughes. He had an office on 38th street but was
attending a meeting at Windows. Tom left behind a loving wife &
four children, his eldest daughter was to be married that Friday. (the
wedding is now taking place tomorrow). Firsthand I see the pain and
anguish that still lingers with my sister and her family. I sometimes
see the confusion and frustration of the perception my sister feels
that her husband is not being recognized as often as others. All the
rescue workers were incredibly courageous & showed unrelenting bravery
in the face of such catastrophe. Thank God for them! We will forever
be grateful for what they have done and we share their pain of lost
families & friends. They deserve all the accolades and memorials
that they get. But we all suffered and for families like my sister,
we need something. Your flag will be our memorial, it will be our healer.
It will give desperately needed recognition so many surviving families
need; it will show appreciation of what their losses represent &
that the victims, all victims, will never be forgotten; and finally
we have something that shows each & every victim was a hero.
On behalf of my sister and family, thank you for doing such a great
& wonderful thing. It is beautiful and I can't wait to get it. For
God, our country, Thomas, and all the victims & families, I will
fly it forever!
Thank you very much,
George
